Men at work

…. Aaaand the worx continues.
While waiting for the pieces of the latest buy group (and the ensuing orgy of packages) to arrive, we are spending the time by working on the tower.

Two prototypes have already undergone the “assembly test” indicating changes, even radical ones, to be made on the original design.

So, one piece at the time, every idea, every expectation, every need fits into the others:
first of all the wiring harness, decidedly inflexible lets itself be comfortably arranged now, the headlight has its solid support, the GPS/phone/device has its adjustable mount, and the dashboard has found its final position, and so did the dual USB socket …

Although everything is falling into place, the challenge of building a tower of our own remains intriguing:
it will be beautiful, it will be functional, it will be as no one else has made it (or could make it).
It will be a GiamaicaWorX!

Now it’s time to order the real prototypes, in carbon fiber and aluminium! Stay tuned!

Surprise!

And here we are with something new!
We received some comments about the Buy Groups (GdAs) for some parts:

“too long waiting”
“too high shipping cost” (for many of those interested overseas)
“I see them available online but they are much more expensive”

and so on.
So we decided to make these models available for everyone!

Here you can download them for free (after logging in and accepting the license to use them)
=> 3D templates downloads <=
and have them made by a workshop or as DIY.

The only thing we ask of you, besides the two points above, is not to remove our logo from the parts.
Our ego demands it…
(therefore are they under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license)

However, we remain available to organize GdAs for those who have no possibility of having them produced or do not want to pay too high prices.

The Brake Lever V2

And so, also the Brake Lever gets the V2 declination… As for the Shifter lever, also the brake lever was (is) working well (still on my bike) but for the same reasons (see the post about the Shifter lever) we went for CNC…

Prototype purchased, aluminium 6061, black glossy anodized, can’t wait to see how it will be!

As usual these are something completely new and unseen:

  • All parts are CNC machined;
  • No welding: all the parts can be replaced singularly;
  • The brake lever can be adjusted in height (about ±15mm), something that cannot be done with the OEM lever;
    and can also be adjusted in length (about ±10mm);
    our unique and unseen (if you see others with the same system you can be sure it is a copy …) allows a quick adjustment to make it suite your needs.

For time being enjoy the CAD, soon we will show you the real one!

Multilanguage!

Thanks to Google we can enrich our Blog experience of simultaneous translation of our content.

The translations are not perfect, but neither is it our English!

However, we hope this will increase your understanding for our work and facilitate your participation.

We have included the two most common languages of our community as fixed elements next to the well-known Navigation Menu and a banner in the lower left corner that additionally allows you to return to the original English version.

The Shifter Lever V2 is here!

And here we are, with the Shifter Lever V2!
The V1 was working well, but…

We made as it was (steel, different parts, partially 3D printed) following several suggestions and our proper inspiration, but it turned out to be expensive and too time-consuming.
In addition, the second prototype shows some defects: of all places in the 3d printed steel base!
although it works well we could not stand that defect, and the producer could not guarantee, at the same price, that the future parts would be flawless…

So we went for CNC machining!

Models modified, purchased, and here we are, this is the first prototype of the V2!

Less parts even if the shape is the same (still possible to make it in three parts, as the V1, we will look for the best option!), no paint needed, completely in aluminium 6061, still adjustable and less protruding like the V1, still with the tip at an angle so it will fold easily, and probably it will be possible to get them anodized…

Now time for the brake lever, that one also will be changed and made in aluminium, soon a prototype will arrive!

Now the winter is coming, so there wont be so much testing (even if we are confident that it works) and we have other projects ongoing (first of all the Tower), but as always if there was enough real interest we could organize a buying group.

Stay tuned!

Side Racks “Solo”

Our side racks have been making a name for themselves for over a year: essential, practical and light the “normal” ones, our beloved first product, sturdy and eclectic the “Heavy Duty” ones;
and now the family expands with the “Solo” ones.

Designed and built for solo use, although of course they do not prevent carrying a passenger while remaining mounted, they move the luggage almost 14 cm toward the center of gravity making the load easier to handle in all situations and allowing more immediate access to the handles, probably no longer used by a passenger but still indispensable for lifting the bike after falls and slips.

If you may miss the flexibility offered by the Heavy Duty in moving the luggage longitudinally or their huge load capability, don’t worry, you won’t loose their strength:
the three attachment points and 4 mm thickness, together with a less pronounced outward protusion, make the Solo durable and unobtrusive in all those situations where as a pair you are not likely to run into.

And as always for GWX products they are also pleasing to the eye by blending nicely into the lines of the tail covers.

A couple of details remain to be clarified, but the prototypes are already being tested on the road … and off it … and have already earned a special place in our hearts!

The Tower is here!

Here we are, ready to show off our next project, the Giamaicaworx Tower, at a more or less final design stage…

There are still a few details to be worked out, but we are going to make the first plastic prototypes to verify envelope and interfaces, and check the feasibility for what concerns the assembly.

Made as a mix of parts in carbon fiber (the main plates and some secondary plates), aluminium (the windshield plates and other plates requiring bending) and 3D printed plastic parts (covers) everything is designed to keep the assembly light and stiff, and of course… beautiful!

And, as usual with our parts, it will have some features that nobody else offers:

  • Weight: still in definition, but we are at around 1.1kg (from CAD); the OEM parts (the two main parts) weight alone 710g, then comes the X cover, the dashboard cover, the GPS bar and screws and washers etc etc, we are pretty sure that we are at the same level, most likely overall a few grams lighter;
  • Extra attachment points: we added two extra points without having to modify the frame (not shown yet, because we have to take final measurements) that help the OEM attachments, which in a few cases failed because of the extra weight added by aftermarket towers or other optionals;
  • Adjustments: the position of the dashboard can be adjusted in two positions, to suite different preferences or to move the dash when using pads or other large screen or roadbooks;
  • Quick release: the windscreen (same position as the OEM one) is attached by 4 of our Quick Release, modified to fit the new brackets;
  • Compatibility: of course it is compatible with our Front Rack and Device Holder;
    the Front Rack will only require a cut, to remove the no longer needed attachments to the OEM 12mm bars, while the Device Holder will fit without any change.
  • New Add-On: a new Device Holder is coming, bigger and more robust, but here we need your help:
    we don’t use devices as tablets or roadbooks, so we don’t have the interfaces; we will design the new part with standard AMPS hole pattern and few extra holes, but if you provide other interfaces (holes positions and diameters for you device) we will be happy to implement them.
  • Costs: Last, but not least: money! We don’t have the total costs yet, but we can foresee costs that will surprise you (in a positive way), as soon as we have them we will post them!

So, now it is time to order/make the plastic parts!
See you soon!

Order!

We wanted to make some changes for a long time but always lacked the time … or the willingness …
until today!
The opportunity came with Mirko Massarutto‘s help in finally developing our logo:

Implementing that came naturally to reorganize the blog to make it even more usable.
New Home, new sections … and two little teaser …
Enjoy!

Plate Holder

And here we are with another jewel from Giamaicaworx!

Plate Holder, perfectly interchangeable with the OEM, adjustable in three angles
1) OEM street legal angle
2) few-more-degrees-let’s-hope-the-cops-won’t-notice-it angle
3) off-roading angle
and the whole plate holder can be removed in less than 10 seconds without tools,
leaving only the base with lights on the bike (for those who are afraid to loose the plate when off riding).

It will be tested on and off road (sweedish TET) during next 10 days, then we’ll see if we will start a group buy
(we can foresee, for a group of 10, a cost of about 80-90€).
